Proud to be one of the oldest sailing clubs in the country

With the main clubhouse, extensive boatyard with modern lift and moorings on the river adur, along with the original clubhouse and locked moorings within Shoreham Port, SYC is first and foremost a members club with unrivalled facilities. Yachts of all sizes call the club home, with both rallying and racing strongly supported, as is the dinghy section where particular attention is given to encouraging youth sailors. The club has a diving section and is home to Sussex Sailability, supporting handicapped sailors of all abilities. SYC also boasts a bar and steward famous for hospitality on both sides of the channel, along with a superb restaurant enjoying the best river views in Shoreham.

Wake up to your wash

From the Harbour Master

It is with sadness that I must inform you that whilst on a vessel moored alongside a quay in the West Arm of Shoreham Harbour, a person sustained an injury, of the loss of part of a finger. One of the contributing factors of this incident was other vessel movements in excessive wake/wash.

Project Kraken

People living or working on and around the UK's coastline and waterways are being asked to report suspicious or unusual activity as part of a multi-agency law enforcement campaign.

Project Kraken - a joint initiative now being delivered by the NCA, Border Force and police forces including Sussex Police - aims to increase public reporting and strengthen the general maritime industry's response to the threats.

A message from the Steward

Club functions have recently had a poor uptake, which resulted in the hard decision to postpone the Summer Party, upsetting those that already had the date in their diary

Club events require sufficient interest in order to be viable and having only a few members signing up in advance, clearly gives myself and the house committee a problem... we are here to entertain and please you rather than gamble with club funds!

In order to book a band, produce quality food at reasonable prices and generally put on a good event, I really do need you lovely members to try and book or express your interest well in advance. Only then are we able to commit to booking a band. Please remember: No bookings = No event!

Support your Yacht Club, book your places as early as you can and join in the fun!

Dolphin Sightings

BRIGHTON DOLPHIN PROJECT

The Brighton Dolphin Project launched by the World Cetacean Alliance aims to connect people to the incredible marine life off the local coast. Their new Discovery Centre, based on Brighton beach next to Brighton pier, is where they are collecting data regarding Brighton’s current and historical dolphin populations. They are very interested in photos and video footage of dolphin encounters caught by the public.

If you have any information/footage of encounters with dolphins that would be good for their Discovery Centre please visit their Facebook page and report any sightings or information. Other social media includes: Brighton Dolphin Project
