BRIGHTON BSAC 007 LOGO for SYCwebsiteThe Diving Section of Sussex Yacht Club has a long and distinguished history. It was formed in 1954 at the Brighton and Worthing Branch (branch number 007) of the British Sub-Aqua Club and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2014.

Since joining forces with SYC in 1999, much integration has taken place, with many divers now enjoying sailing and many sailors having taken the plunge to investigate the world beneath their boats.

The Club has its own dive boat (8m RIB) moored at SYC. diving takes place throughout the year, weather permitting. A lot of diving takes place locally between Beachy Head and Selsey Bill, with around 200 sites plotted within a 25 mile radius of the clubhouse. Many locations around the British coast have been diveed, from Cornwall to the Orkney Islands. Expeditions to coral reefs in the Red Sea, Kenya, the Caribbean, and Papua New Guinea are also made throughout the year.

As a BSAC branch, “007” can train Members from an “Introduction to diving” up to BSAC Advanced per level. BSAC recognises the diving qualifications awarded by other diving organisation and Members can choose to maintain their existing qualifications or transfer to the equivalent BSAC grade.

Divers with qualifications from PADI, SAA, IANTD and other agencies are more than welcome.
